From a newspaper:

Jan Eugene Hardesty died at his home Wednesday, June 13, 2007. He was born April 5, 1934, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Olin E. and Martha (Barker) Hardesty. He completed his education in Sheridan, Wyoming. He married Marilou Costello, July 22, 1960. They had two children: Jeffrey Mark and Jana Lou.

Jan tried his hand at many different careers and finally settled at Montana Power Company as an Underground Foreman. After 30 years, he retired in 1995. He made many friends and really took pride in his work. The guys admired him and loved to tease him - eventually he became known as the "Big Strapper." Jan was a longtime member of the IBEW Local 532 and Rimrock Lodge 149.

For the last several years, Jan went to Rehab at St. V's and formed many special friendships. He enjoyed shooting the breeze with his fellow Rehab buddies and looked forward to this early morning ritual. Jan loved motorcycles and was never happier then when riding his Heritage Softtail Classic Harley Davidson.

Jan was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Joel and James; and by his son, Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilou; daughter Jana (Bryan) Vigesaa; grandson, Gene Hauck; granddaughter, Carlee Ann Vigesaa; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Jan's life will be held at a later date.

"Dad was always an optimist and always fought to stay with us. We love you."
