O.H. SHIELDS DEAD
Well-Known Real Estate Dealer Passes Away After Brief Illness of Appendicitis.
Oliver H. Shields, a well known real estate dealer, died on Thursday afternoon after a brief illness, aged 40 years. Mr. Shields became ill on Friday and his condition became rapidly worse, an operation for appendicitis being regarded as necessary on Tuesday. Mr. Shields stood the operation well but on Wednesday he began to fail, and continued to sink until the end on Thursday afternoon at 3:40 o'clock.
Mr. Shields was a son of the late Geo. W. Shields, and had been a lifelong citizen of Nashville. Mr. Shields, was for several years connected with the firm of Weakley & Shields, of which firm his father was a member, and he was also connected at one time with the Phillips & Buttorff Manufacturing Company. About five years ago Mr. Shields embarked in the real estate business for himself, and opened an office in the Maxwell House building. He quietly came into prominence in real estate cicles, and at the time of his death was one of the leading real estate men of the city.
Mr. Shields was interested with Paul Roberts in the deal for the building of the twelve-story structure for the First National Bank at the corner of Church street and Fourth avenue. He was affable in his manners, and was a capable business man, with a large circle of acquaintances who will hear with deep regret of his death.
Mr. Shields was a brother of George W. Shields, Jr. and is survived by his widow and four children. The arrangements for the funeral and interment had not been made early Thursday night, but it was understood that Saturday morning will be the time.
