Velma Peters, of Terrell, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2020 with loved ones at her side. Velma was born April 11, 1927 in Kaufman County, Tx to Henry and Alice (Hamilton) Hailey. She was met in Heaven by her parents, her husband, Johnnie Samuel Peters, her daughter, Betty L. Peters Taylor, 7 sisters and 5 brothers.
Velma lived in the Lawrence community where being a part of a big family gave her all the love that she would so freely give to her own family and friends for all of her life. She married her best friend and soul mate, Johnnie Peters, on March 2, 1946 and together they raised a beautiful family with a firm foundation in their faith. She worked for many years at Southland Athletic Manufacturing in Terrell where working as a seamstress on the many uniforms for sports activities kept her talented hands busy. She was also a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church where the many friendships she made there lasted until she was reunited with her Lord and Savior as well as the many family members called to Heaven before her. A kind woman who had a smile for everyone, Velma will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons: James E. (Pete) Peters and wife, Linda, and Dewayne Peters, all of Terrell; grandsons: Joe Don Peters and wife, Tricia of Wills Point, Brian Morgan and wife, Krystle of Canton; 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Funeral service for Velma will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Max Slayton Funerals Chapel with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
