John Allen's funeral is scheduled for 1:00 pm, November 10, 2020 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The viewing will take place November 9th, 2020 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas.
John was born September 11, 1926 in Latta, South Carolina to the late Mallie C. and Marion L. Allen. He died on November 1, 2020 at age 94.
Mr. Allen was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and the Care and Share Sunday School class. He was a life member of his hometown Masonic Lodge, an ordained Baptist deacon and a Sunday School teacher for over fifty years.
He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Radioman during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict as a Special Weapons Officer. Following his Navy service he received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and years later continued graduate studies at the University of Florida.
He retired in 1990 from a career of thirty-eight years primarily with TRW, Inc., where he managed a number of widely diverse engineering projects that ranged from supervising ICBM launch operations at Cape Canaveral, to research and Development of Command, Control and Communications Systems for the Department of Defense and investigations
into alternative energy sources for the Department of Energy.
Survivors include five children, John, Mark, Cheri, Cary and Bruce, with spouses, Wanda, Darrell, Sue and Laura; ten grandchildren, Daniel, David, Trisha, Michelle, Jenny, Joe, Bradley, John, William and Paul, with spouses, Ashley and Hannah; and two great grandchildren, Kaley and Avery.
