He married Janet Goebel, the love of his life, on May 21, 1955. Together, they raised three sons, Kevin, Terry, and Brian and lived in various homes throughout the Milwaukee Metro area. He was involved in Boy Scouts with his sons, having achieved the Silver Eagle, himself. LeRoy worked for 40 plus years at Fairbanks Scale.
He remained very active in community service after retirement. LeRoy was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and Vice President of the United Seniors of Wisconsin, and a member of the Milwaukee Civil War Roundtable. A proud man and a man of faith, he volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House.
After the death of his beloved Janet, in 2006, he continued to travel and enjoy life with Caroline Clements. Together they made memories with her 4 children and grandchildren.
LeRoy’s surviving family include his son, Kevin (Donna) Apfel, and grandchildren Kurtis, Derek, and Crystal Apfel; daughter-in-law, Linda Apfel and grandson Jonathan (Amber) Apfel along with great grandchildren: Kayleigh, Leigha, and Dylan of Virginia. He is also survived by his son Brian Apfel.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, daughter-in-law Jennifer Apfel, and his son Terry Apfel. Also preceding in death were his brothers Charles and Larry Apfel.
Church and Chapel Funeral Home at 15250 W National Ave. in New Berlin is serving the family. Service will be 1 PM, Thursday November 12, 2020 with visitation from 11 AM to time of service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin.
