Tom O. Mitscher departed this life on November 4, 2020. He was born in Oklahoma City on August 9, 1935 to Tom O. Mitscher Sr. and Agripha Mitscher.

Following his graduation from Central High School in 1953, he worked as a salesman for National Supply Company.

In 1971 he graduated from Oklahoma City University and went to work for Harris Packing Company.

He worked at various jobs until his ordination into the ministry in 1976.

He was made director of the Good Shepherd Ministry of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. He often referred to his time there as the most rewarding experience of his life.

During this time, he established the Good Shepherd medical clinic. He later prevailed upon his daughter Sharon’s father-in-law, Oren Bush DDS to help add dental services to the clinic.

He also established a bar ministry at Chris and Chucks bar in downtown OKC. He would preach the Sunday morning service at Good Shepherd and then head downtown to preach a 1:00pm service at the bar.

Among his favorite gospel songs were Amazing Grace, He Lives and Little Brown Church in the Wildwood because those were the songs that the attendees at the bar service wanted to sing every Sunday.

In 1982, he moved to New Orleans where he lived for 15 years during which time he owned a small “Mom and Pop” restaurant across the street from the county courthouse.

In 1997 he retired to Pueblo, CO where his daughter Cyndi lived with her family.

In 2006 he moved back to OKC in order for Patsy to help care for her aging mother.

Tom was cheerful, thoughtful, loving, kind and generous to all he met. He considered everyone as his “buddy”, he always had a smile on his face.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy; his daughters, Sharon Bush, Diane McQuigg and Cyndi (Conrad) Garcia; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Bellevue Nursing Center who took exceptional care of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
Good Shepherd Dental Clinic, 222 NW 12th St., OKC, OK 73103.

Service will be live streamed.
