Sharon Elaine Pihl (Markwell) was 76-years of age and lived in Puyallup, WA. Sharon was born in Mt. Auburn, Illinois July 21, 1940 and died in Puyallup, Washington October 3, 2016.
Sharon's parents were Ollie and Lucille Markwell of Mt. Auburn, Illinois, and she was married to Carl Pihl on December 9, 1966 in Puyallup, WA. Sharon graduated from Mt. Auburn High School.
Sharon moved from a small, rural community of Mt. Auburn, Illinois then moved to the large city of Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a nurse's aid and later a file clerk for Time Life Magazine. Sharon then moved to California and attended Seadron Business College. After college, she worked as a civilian employee for the US Air Force at Norton Air Force Base for two years, and Edwards Air Force Base for one year. She moved to Puyallup to marry Carl A. Pihl. Sharon postponed her career to raise her two sons, Jerry and Joe. Later, Sharon worked as a housekeeper at Rainier Vista Care Center for 11 years before retiring when she became a Grandma to Janessa Elaine and then Jansyn Grace Pihl.
Her husband, Carl Albert Pihl, was born in Puyallup, WA on October 24, 1941 to Carl O. Pihl and Varda Pihl. He had two younger siblings, Roger and Grace Anne Pihl, who he loved dearly. Carl graduated from Puyallup High School in 1959 at the age of 17 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Carl served as a Cook on the cutter, Storis, and travelled abroad during his duties. After military, Carl worked for the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and worked as a courier and support crew for the U2 spy plane and Air America with the agency. Carl left the CIA to marry the love of his life, Sharon. Both settled back in Puyallup, where Carl worked for Northwest Orient Airlines and served for 37 years as a ground service employee before retiring. Unable to be separated from his beloved wife, he died on October 5, 2016.
Carl was loved by his co-workers for his sense of humor, and candidness to everyone he met. To have Carl as a friend was to have a friend for life. Sharon was loved by many friends and co-workers from across the Puyallup area and cherished these friendships every day of her life.
Carl and Sharon were both extremely proud of their sons Jerry and Joseph and daughters-in-law, who all serve in Corrections and Law Enforcement. Both Carl and Sharon adored their granddaughter's, Janessa and Jansyn, and never missed a chance to be at any event.
