Bernadine was born the daughter of Martin & Matilda (Klopp) Michelau in Springfield Township. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school. She then attended Lamberton Teachers College and taught country school in Southbrook Township. Bernadine married Clair Haberman on September 2, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dundee. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Dundee and were part owners of Clair and Ned's Cafe in Dundee. They moved to Heron Lake in 1969 and Bernadine worked at Woolworth's in Worthington and at the Okabena Farmer's Elevator as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Clair passed away on May 6, 2002 and Bernadine continued to live in her home. She entered the Lakeview Nursing Home in Heron Lake in 2002 and had resided there since.

Bernadine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. She had served as president of the Ladies Aid and was a member of the church quilting club. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, reading, gardening and quilting.

Bernadine passed away at the Lakeview Nursing Home. She was 83 years, 7 months and 16 days old.

Bernadine is survived by five sons Terry Haberman, Bob (Pat) Haberman of Poway, California, Ron and his wife Jane Haberman, David (Jeanne) Haberman, and Randy Haberman and his special friend Karen Edwards; three daughters Cheri (Jim) Rademacher, Michele (Mark) Gonnion, and Lisa (Guy) Carlson; 25 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a son-in-law Mel Tennessen, and two sisters Ginny (Rich) Hansen and Barbara (Harry) Springman.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Carol, a brother Henry and two sisters Mary and Josephine.

Funeral services were held October 30, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Heron Lake, Fr. Andrew Olson and Fr. Clayton Haberman, concelebrants.
