Muncie - Phillip Thorpe, 70, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2015, in his home.
Phillip was born January 12, 1945, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Wm. Donald and Mary (McCreery) Thorpe.
He was a graduate of Muncie Southside High School in 1963. He attended Purdue University with a scholarship from the Theatre Department where he had spent the previous two summers studying theatre arts. He had been active in Muncie Civic Theatre and Shoestring Theatre Productions. He was a National Thespian Honor Recipient.
After college, he moved to New York where he studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Uta Hagen Institute, an immersive program for actors.
He was a member of the Actors Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild.
Phillip moved to Seattle to work in professional theatre companies and became involved with civic theatre groups. He loved Seattle and called himself a true Pluviophile, one who found joy and peace of mind during rainy days.
Later in life, Phillip studied culinary arts, another of his passions. His Degree helped him obtain positions of Head Chef in companies where he formulated menus and opened a series of restaurants in cities of Alaska. In Seattle, Phillip became Executive Chef for Seattle's largest catering and special events company. He took great pride in mentoring young chefs and kitchen employees. He returned to his hometown of Muncie after retiring in 2005.
Phillip is survived by two brothers, Donald Thorpe and Chris Thorpe, and one sister Marilyn McClellan. He is also survived by three nieces, Lori Solt, Jessica Tirone, and Jennifer Thorpe-Ice. He has two nephews Scott Thorpe and Brent McClellan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
