Frances was a devoted wife to the late Howard Thurlby and a loving mother to Debra (Richard) Parsons, Eddie (Deborah) Garfield, Markham (Dawn) Garfield, and Steven (Susan) Garfield. She was a cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Phillip (Carol) Havens and by her brother-in-law, Les Sage. She was preceded in death by her son, Randy Garfield, and siblings Verna Asher, Allen Havens, Mary Sage, and David Havens.
Frances attended Bath United Methodist Church and was actively involved in numerous organizations and community service activities throughout Bath Township. Her giving heart and dedication to helping others were evident in her contributions to the community.
She enjoyed traveling, staying busy, and embracing new experiences. Frances was known for her independence, strength, and love for her family. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, and her "Granny" persona endeared her to everyone who knew her. Frances had a unique ability to share funny stories and engage in lengthy, heartfelt conversations, especially with her grandkids.
Frances retired from the State of Michigan after 35 years of dedicated service.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Bath Community Center at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Granny's name can be made to a local food bank, Bath United Methodist Church, or Bath Community Schools.
