Ray Almond Robinson, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

He was born June 14, 1919, at the family home south of Arapahoe, Colo., to Jacob Almon and Ola Myrtle Corbin Robinson. He attended Prairie Dell Country School for his first eight years and then attended high school in Arapahoe, graduating in 1938. After graduation, Mr. Robinson worked at various jobs before being drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1941. Most of his overseas time was in Alaska, and he received the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the American Defense Medal. He was discharged from the service in October 1945.

On Dec. 23, 1945, he married Edna Kregar in Cheyenne Wells, Colo.

Mr. Robinson worked for the Rooney family for 32 years running a farm and ranch south of Arapahoe. He then moved to a ranch north of Deerfield and worked for 20 more years for the Rooney family. In these 52 years he worked for three generations of Rooneys. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to a home south of Lakin, where he enjoyed woodworking and bird watching. For the past two years he has resided at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lakin, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9700 at Cheyenne Wells, and belonged to The Golden Agers and 4220th Quartermaster Service Co.

In addition to his wife, of the home, survivors include four sons, Ronald Robinson of Lakin, Kenneth Robinson of Decatur, Ark., Marvin Robinson of Burlington, Colo., and Leonard Robinson of Wild Horse, Colo.; two daughters, Linda Hoffman of Wilberton, Okla., and Sandra Hendrix of Lakin; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Blanche Robinson; and a brother, Roy Robinson.

Burial was in Lakin Cemetery.
