Virginia Violet Baumhardt

Virginia was born on March 10, 1919, in Imperial, Nebraska. Her parents were Elizabeth (Yost) and Henry George Spady, both born in Norka, Russia. She died in peace in Eureka on March 30, 2010.

Virginia was known as "Gin" and grew up with six brothers and sisters in Denver, Colorado. Her only surviving sibling is her younger brother, Jack Spady, of Arvada Colorado. The siblings that preceded her in death were her sisters, Freda, Rose, and Marguerite, and brothers, Raymond and Paul.

Virginia married Henry DeGroot on August 25, 1936, after living through the great depression. They raised four children and lived most of their married years in Sandpoint, Idaho. Henry was in the navy in WWII in the South Pacific theater and Virginia waited at home with small children. She was a wonderful mother and eventually a good grandmother to her many grand and great grandchildren. She was a pillar of honesty and strength for us all. She taught us to garden, cook, clean and to be polite, and to be responsible for our own actions. She taught us to laugh until tears would run down our faces and to be the best citizens that we could. She saw us through weddings, births, divorces, and earthquakes. She had many jobs outside of the home as she raised her family. She worked in doctor's offices, at a gift shop in the Broadmore hotel in Colorado Springs, CO, and at the County Court house in Sandpoint. She and her second husband, Vern Baumhardt, had antique stores and were knowledgeable in the value of them.

Both husbands preceded her in death. Virginia is survived by three of her four children, JoAn McBride and Carol Sisemore of Ferndale,CA, and Dick DeGroot of Hawaii, and their spouses. Virginia's oldest son, Bob DeGroot, passed away more than a year before her in Maryland state. Surviving her also are many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren and their families. She will be missed by many.

A private memorial service will be held. Donations can be made in Virginia's name to the Salvation Army.
