FRANK THOMAS, 67, DIES; HEADED NAVAL TAILORS

Norfolk - Francis Pasteur (Frank) Thomas, 67, president since 1921 of the Frank Thomas Co., civilian and servicemen's tailors, died Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the residence, 2746 Stanhope Ave. He had been ill for two and a half years.
Born in New Bern, N.C., he was a son of Charles Randolph and Mrs. Laura Davis Thomas. His father was a lawyer and served in the legislature of North Carolina.
After early schooling at the Fishburne Military School, he attended the Georgia School of Technology in Atlanta, Ga.
He came to Norfolk in 1911 and was associated with Hatch and Koolage until 1917. When World War I involved this country, he became a sergeant in the Infantry, finally being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.
In 1920 he married Clara E. Trego, daughter of C.M. and Mrs. Mary Trego. He served as secretary and treasurer of Koolage Inc. between 1917 and 1921, leaving to take over the presidency of the Frank Thomas Co.
The firm he headed specialized in clothing naval and Coast Guard officers. Clients flew in from all over the country to get their uniforms tailored here. A number of naval officers have been togged by the Thomas Co. during their whole career from midshipmen to admiral.
He was a former communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Trego Thomas; two nephews, Lt. Col. Charles Randolph Thomas III, USA, stationed at Mannheim, Germany and Frank P. Thomas II of Norfolk.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home Thursday at noon by the Rev. Norman Slater, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
