Carol Jean Cerny-Hester, 74, passed away November 8, 2020, at home in Bellflower, CA. Carol was the proud Mother of 2 children. Born in Austin, MN March 27, 1946, to Jeanette “Van De Brake” and Joseph F “Joe” Cerny.
Carol attended Monticello High and left early to help run the family business in Langworthy, IA, with her Mother and Step-Father; John Drucker. She married James L Helgens in 1964, moved to Southern California in 1972 and started working for Kaiser Permanente. She returned to Midwest in 1974 to raise her daughters and help again with the family business (Bloomington Meat Locker). She then bought and ran businesses in Bloomington and Cassville WI, then moved back to Monticello, IA where she worked multiple jobs. In 1983 made the journey again back to Southern California and continued working for Kaiser Permanente until she retired, as a result of ongoing health issues.
She had many loves in her life, however she met the love of her life, James Hester, married in 1994 and traveled throughout the country until his death in 2006.
My Mother was the strongest person I knew, deeply loved her Grandsons, family, friends and made the best out of every situation. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was and always the first to offer help. I could write forever about my Mother, she and I often laughed of the book I was going to write about her Journey in Love and Life and OHHH what a ride it has been.
She is survived by her Daughter Christine (Jeff) Helgens-Udelhofen; Grandsons; Chase (Toryann), Dane and Ty of Bellflower, California. Brother; Adrian (Kris) Cerny of Spokane, WA and many Nieces and Nephews who she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her Daughter; Cathie M Helgens, Husband: James E “Bud” Hester, Parents; Jeanette Drucker and Joseph F Cerny. Sisters; Kathleen Katzenbach, Joanne Cerny, Janice Njos, Brothers; Steven and Robert “Bob” Cerny.
Carol requested a small graveside service, which will be held Spring of 2021 in Monticello IA.
