Spouse Lona Evelyn Baumgardner
Spouse Cornelia (Connie) Mae Simpson-Mink

Col. Wesley S. Mink United States Air Force Retired, passed away quietly in his sleep early Wednesday morning at his summer home in Mackay, Idaho. Wes was born in Boise, Idaho to Oscar Wesley and Lois Abeel Mink.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lona Evelyn Baumgardner, his sister, Isabel, and his brothers, Gustavus and Oscar. He is survived by his wife, Cornelia (Connie) Mae Simpson-Mink of Austin, Texas, his sister, Marlene Mink of Green Valley, Arizona, his son Wesley Edward and wife, Jane, and children of Gwin, Michigan, his daughter, Karen Maier and husband, Joseph, and daughters of McMinnville, Oregon, step-daughter, Lara Simpson and her husband, Alan Mattingly and son, Ian of Pearland, Texas. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, not only in the northwest region, but also extended family and friends in Texas. Wes was a member of Parker Lane United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.
The Mink family made their home in Mackay, where his father was employed with the forest service. Wes, upon completing eighth grade, followed his family to the Boise area, where he graduated from Boise High School. He began his college education at Oregon State but chose to serve his country during WWII. He enlisted and was accepted by the Army Air Corps on April 24, 1941, and completed flight training on December 12, 1941 (five days after Pearl Harbor). While in the Air Force, Wes took advantage of "Operation Boot Strap", completing his degree at Syracuse University in 1959. In 1971, he retired with 30 years of service: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. (Fortunately, his oral history had just been completed several days before his death and will be preserved with the Veterans of Custer County Memorial (VCCM) at the Land of the Yankee Fork Visitor Center near Challis, Idaho.)
The Colonel requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the following: VCCM, Mackay American Legion and Auxiliary Joe Nowacki Post # 16, the Mackay Senior Citizen Center, Daedalus Long Horn Flight 38, Austin, Texas, Parker Lane United Methodist Church, Austin, Texas, and the USO.
Arrangements for the internment were made by Bingham-Marvel Memorial Chapel in Arco. Graveside service will be held at Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, Arizona, September 28, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Mackay American Legion Hall on October 1, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
