CLEVELAND - Mr. Charles Earl Barber, 83, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence.
Born Feb. 1, 1931, in Rowan County to the late Lena Robinson Barber and Marion Earl Barber, he attended Woodleaf schools. Mr. Barber was owner/operator and self-employed as a truck driver from 1955-1992.
He loved farming and was an avid Bluegrass music fan and traveled the country attending festivals and making friends from everywhere.
He enjoyed all sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and was a longstanding season ticket holder for the Rowan County American Legion Baseball team.
Mr. Barber was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church where he served as chairman of the cemetery committee for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances Lippard Barber; son Charles Richard Barber and wife Vickie of Cleveland; brother Marion Carl Barber of Cooleemee; three grandchildren, Richard Phillip Barber, Jessica Barber and Hala Barber; two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Cody Barber; two stepgrandchildren, Devan and Michael Simmerson; and five step-great-grandchildren, Walker and Sierra Simmerson and Seth, Carson and Aiden Simmerson.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday (May 3) at Summersett Funeral Home.
Service: The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday (May 4) at Lebanon Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Clarence Sifford. Burial will follow at Lebanon Lutheran Church Cemetery.
