PUTNEY - Mrs. David S. Persons
Mrs. Julia A. Persons, 71, wife of David S. Persons of this village, died in her home shortly before midnight Sunday night. She sustained a shock June 8, which left her practically helpless, but she became able to be around in a wheel chair. For the past month, however, she had been in failing health.
Mrs. Persons was born in Mount Holly Dec. 5, 1849, one of six children of Isaac and Mary (Cole) Jaquith. She married David S. Persons in Andover Dec. 15, 1868, and went to Weston to live. About 40 years ago they bought a farm in East Putney, a short distance from the railroad station, and went there to live, moving to this village in the spring of 1919. they observed their golden wedding anniversary, Dec 15, 1918.
Besides her husband Mrs. Persons leaves two daughters, Minnie, wife of george T. Aplin of East Putney, and Belle, wife of Walter S. Stearns of Brattleboro, one brother, Rollin B. Jaquith of Weston, and five grandsons, Donald, Richard and Howard Aplin and Stewart and James Stearns.
Mrs. Persons was a woman of cordial and sympathetic nature and possessed a personal charm which will forever remain in the memory of her many friends. She was a devoted wife and mother, and the old-time friends who have moved away from East Putney as well as the later residents there remember the old home as a place where cordiality abounded and where skillful hands made home attractive.
The funeral will be held in the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and the burial will take place in Mount Pleasant cemetery. [Published in "The Brattleboro Daily Reformer," Brattleboro, Vermont, Tuesday, September 14th, 1920, MDP, Page 6.]
