Darline Ruth Payne

Darline Ruth Payne was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa in 1917 to Vera Long Jordan and Eugene Avery Jordan. She had two sisters, Ersell Helen Bailey and Vera Gene Drake.
The family lived in the Midwest until Darline was 10 when they came out west and lived in Longview, Wash., for a year before moving to Portland. She attended 7th and 8th grade at Rose City grammar school, then graduated from Commerce High School in 1934. Over the years she attended numerous classes at PSU.
In 1939 Darline married Delbert G. Thomas and they had one child, Phillip Lee Thomas. They divorced in 1956. In 1963 She married William R. "Bill" Payne. He preceded her in death in 2005.
After a 50 year career in real estate and mortgage banking she retired from First Security Realty Services (formerly Securities Intermoutain, Inc). After retiring Darline volunteered at Portland Adventist hospital for many years.
She was a member of Parkrose Community United Church of Christ, the Portland Oregon Doll Club and UFDC.
Darline is survived by son, Phillip L. Thomas; niece, Patricia Meling; sister, Vera Gene Drake; grandchildren, Kartini Thomas and Teri Thomas; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be no services and she requested that in lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Parkrose United Church of Christ or to Snow-Cap Community Charities. Her final resting place will be in Willamette National Cemetery alongside her husband, Bill.
