Excerpt -- Adalaide Elizabeth Harman, 83, of Madison Avenue, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born May 15, 1919, in Rowlesburg. She was the daughter of the late Tye and Nell Kelly Miller. She graduated from Rowlesburg High School and was an avid fan of West Virginia University athletics. She was a member of the Spruce Street United Methodist Church, a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and a mother adviser for the Rainbow Girls.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Pierpont Morgan "Dutch" Harman; two sons and spouses, Thomas and Cynthia Harman, of Morgantown; Edward and Pat Harman, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Elizabeth "Libby" and Chuck Messerly, of Weirton; a son-in-law, Michael McLaughlin, of Sewickley, Pa. She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Chuck Messerly Jr., Daniel Messerly, Deborah Hawthorne, Bryan Messerly, Tom Harman II, Tim Harman, Ed Harman Jr., Eric Harman, Michael McLaughlin and Kelly McLaughlin; 15 great-grandchildren, David and Michael Messerly, Derek, Wyatt, and D.J. Messerly, Robert and Rhonda Hawthorne, Chase and Rilie Harman, Hayley and Joshua Harman, Mathew, Janeanne Benger, Laura and Graham McLaughlin; a brother, James Miller, of Virginia; two sisters, Jacqueline Hare, of Keyser, Nell Catherine and spouse Leon McCreary, of Cottontown, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine "Kitty" McLaughlin; a grandson, Edward L. Harman III; three brothers, Harry Miller, Ralph Miller, and John Miller; five sisters, Mabel Spicer, Evelyn Felton, Phyllis Youngblood, Doris Caniford and Enza Louise Miller.
Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6-9 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in her memory to the Leukemia Society of America, 2101 Executive Drive, Hampton, VA 23
