Hester (Hetty) McFadden was the wife of Starr Hoyt and was first found in a school list of "poor children" in Columbia in 1828. She is in the 1840 and the 1850 Censuses in Columbia Lancaster Co PA with him and their eldest children. They seem to have married about 1833 although no record has yet been found. Her birth name was determined from her daughter's death certificate.

It is not known who her parents were although it is speculated that her father was Joseph H. McFadden 1790-1836 #134072090. John McFadden c.1801-p.1850 was the landlord of the Lamb Tavern in Columbia in 1830s-1840s and was likely a brother of Joseph McFadden and perhaps her uncle.

The family moved to Baltimore about 1851.

She is listed in the 1880 Census as running a cake stand. Her husband was consistently in the tavern and restaurant business.

Her children were:

Martha Caulder 1834-1892, b. PA
Amanda Smith 1838-1901, b. PA
Henry 1844-1887, b. PA
Mary 1846-1930, b. PA
John 1849-1895, PA, twin Robert?
Robert b.1849, PA, died young?
Albert 1853-1937, b. Baltimore, twin of Emma?
Emma Despeaux 1853-1888, b. Baltimore
Edward 1857-1935, b. Baltimore

Does anyone know who her parents were?
