Avery - Allen De, 86, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at The Oaks of Avon Park, Fla.

De was born October 23, 1922, in Flint, Mich, to Charles and Emma (Hutchinson) Avery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Herman, who was killed in World War II.

De is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Aldine; his son, Dan Avery of Mancelona, Mich; and daughter, Gwen (Avery) Alley and her husband, Steve, and their daughter, Andrea, of Tulsa, Okla. He is also survived by is sister, Norma (Avery) Black of Lakeland, Fla.; and his brother, James Avery of Las Vegas, Nev.

De was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army.

He owned and operated a Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth dealership in Michigan from the 1940s through 1979. After selling his business, he taught in the automotive department of a Vo-Tech school in Michigan.

De and Aldine began spending their winters in Avon Park in the 1980s and became permanent residents in 1999. He was a member of Community Bible Church of Avon Park, as well as being active at the Holiness Camp Grounds. He loved to travel, was an avid fisherman, loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles and to spend time with family.

He was a Godly man of integrity and faithfulness. His life was an example to his family and many others. De will be sorely missed but is blessed beyond all measure to be in heaven with our Lord.

A celebration of his life will take place 2 pm July 16, 2009, at Community Bible Church of Avon Park.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home Avon Park
