Mary Blanchard
Mary Gilchrist Tatum Blanchard, 79, died Sunday night at her home.
Born in McColl, she was a daughter of the late William Gilchrist and Atlanta Violet Moore Tatum and the widow of Dr. Felix Anthony Blanchard Sr.
Mrs. Blanchard was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. She was a graduate of McColl High School, attended Wesleyan College and graduated from Converse College in 1923.
After the death of her husband in 1944, she did child welfare work with the Department of Social Services until retirement. She was a past president of the Pilot Club of Sumter and was selected Outstanding Pilot of South Carolina in 1978.
Survivors include a son, Col. Felix Anthony Blanchard Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Dr. Mary Elizabeth Blanchard of Sumter; two brothers, Ben Moore Tatum and William G. Tatum Jr., both of McColl; a sister, Mrs. James Herman Benton of Lauringburg, N. C.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral mass will be said at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church by Father George Knab.
Burial will be at noon in Roselawn Cemetery in McColl.
Pallbearers will be Dr. E. Glenn Ayers, Dr. J. J. Britton, Dr. H. T. HarvinJr., Dr. C. R. Propst, Edward E. Ervin III, William Green DesChamps, Harold C. Lutz and Dr. A. F. Burnside Jr.
Memorials may be made to the Tuomey Hospital building fund or the scholarship fund of the Pilot Club or a charity of one's choice.
The family will be at the home.
