Mary Hall nee Van Buskirk was born in Nicholsville, Nova Scotia, Canada on 14 July 1873. Her parents are Obed Van Buskirk and Julia Banks. She married Civil War Veteran Franklin Hall on 14 May 1890 in Aylseford, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
They initially settled in Chester, Maine, where Franklin was living at the time of the marriage. According to the 1900 US Census, the family was living in Townsend, Massachusetts next door to her Julia Banks and step-father John Ewing. About 1901 the family moved to Stoughton, Massachusetts. Franklin died 11 October, 1915 at the soldier’s home in Togus, Maine after suffering seizures. He is buried at the National Cemetery in Togus.
Widow Mary continued collecting Franklin’s pension, based on his military service and according to the 1930 US Census remained living in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Mary had become a naturalized citizen in 1896.
She and Franklin had five children and in 1930: Leroy was employed as a bank accountant, and Viola was employed as a stenographer at a retail lumber yard and both were living at home. Son Edgar and wife Nilda were living next door with children Joyce and Kenneth. Edgar was employed as a superintendent of a retail lumber yard. Daughter Julia had married widower Charles Gelpke and living in Sharon, Massachusetts. Leroy became a pilot during WWII.
Daughter Angie had married Ralph Bowmar and had moved to Groton, Massachusetts. Later Viola married Louis Aldrich and moved to Sharon.
Mary died at her home in Stoughton on April 13, 1936 and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
