Greta D. Eldred-Marlenee age 98, of Anamosa, died Wednesday February 18, 2009 at Silvercrest of Anamosa following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, February 20, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa with entombment in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Laurie Riley will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.

Surviving are 2 children, Gene (MaryLou) Eldred, and Carol (Lonnie) Hinrichsen, Anamosa, a step-daughter, Marlene Dieleman, DesMoines, 8 Grandchildren, 6 step-Grandchildren, 18 great-Grandchildren and 4 great-great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Eldred and Ben A. Marlenee, a step-son Ben E. Marlenee, a step-Grandson, 2 sisters, Thelma Schlemme and Nina Schrader and 3 brothers, Galen, Arlo and Rex Brady.

Greta Dorthea Brady was born November 15, 1910 near Scotch Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ransom and Clara Belle Maxson Brady.

Greta graduated from the Center Junction High School and then went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught in the rural schools near Martelle.

Greta D. Brady and Russell L. Eldred were married January 1, 1933 at the Brady family home in Martelle. The couple farmed in the Martelle and Morley area until Russells death on December 30, 1961.

Greta made her home in the Anamosa Community where she married Ben A. Marlenee on June 12, 1971. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Her health caused her to move to Silvercrest in 2004.

Greta was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW. She had also been active in the Farm Bureau, 4 H Club Leadership, the Legislative Ladies League, Ugo Igo Club and Grant Wood Paint and Pallet.
