Wilma Alberta Riggs Rector, passed away at age 98, December 4, 2020. A lifelong resident of Terre Haute, IN, Wilma and her late husband, Marvin, moved to Avon, IN in 1999. In 2014, she moved to Westside Gardens where she was a resident until her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Russell Rector on February 14, 2010. She was born to Rev. Charles H., and Katherine M. Riggs February 24, 1922 [See Gravesite details] in Rising Sun, IN. Siblings included sisters, Frances Dishon Dorsett, deceased, November 6, 2017, Mildred Marie, d. 1918, Betty Jean, d. 1925, and brother, Paul David, d. 1934. Her father, Rev. Charles Riggs, pastored congregations in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. It was during his ministry in Terre Haute, IN, that Wilma met Marvin R. Rector. They were married September 9, 1940 [should be 29th] and established their home in Terre Haute. To their union were born a daughter, Sandra Felter (David), and two sons, Martin (DeAnne) and Byron (Michelle). Wilma is survived by her children and grandchildren, David R. Felter (Pam), Jib Felter (LeEtta), Kimberly Sangar (Emanuel), Kevin Rector (April), Max Rector (Melissa), Caitie Muller (Luke), and Emily Lara (Enrique). Gravesite Details
The obituary has February 24 as her birthdate but the gravestone has February 12. She explained to me that Indiana had made a mistake on her birth certificate and could not get it corrected. She had the 12th engraved on the stone.
