Calap was born in Parksville, Boyle County, Kentucky. He was one of eight children. He moved to Missouri between 1910-1917 with his oldest sibling Annie Pendygraft-Hay. He was living in Dearborn, Missouri on 05 June 1917 per his World War I draft registration. He lived in Holt & Weston, Missouri for many years. He was a tobacco farmer.

His nickname within the family was "Gabe"

He had 2 children of his own & 1 step-daughter from his 1st marriage. His first-born was Virginia Belle. She died as a baby. His other daughter, Elizabeth was my Grandmother. His second marriage he was the step-father of Samuel, J.T., & Ida Mae Pate.

By all accounts Calap was an easy going kind of guy who spoke softly with a Kentucky accent. He was a hard working man & a successful tobacco grower.

Calap died under very suspicious circumstances. The picture of Calap with his siblings was taken the day before his death.
