Melvin was a member of Stephenson High School class of 1970. Melvin lived in the Banat/Daggett/Stephenson area all his life. Melvin was, as he put it, “A Bad Ass Logger from the U.P.” He loved being in the woods and logged/skidded for the better part of 55 years! For 25 years or more he worked as DeLaurelle Custom Skidding.
Melvin loved anything to do with the outdoors including 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Recently he was happy to have finished “Camp Goodenuf da Turd” in time for this hunting season and passing it on to his children and grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife Margaret (O’Keeffe);
his children: Todd (Tracy) DeLaurelle, Wendy (Charlie Sr.) Johnsen, and Ryan (Miranda) DeLaurelle;
and by his former wife, mother of his children, and friend, Ruth DeLaurelle;
brother James “Butch” (Jan “Ducat”) DeLaurelle;
sister Wanda (Dale) Przewrocki;
and brother Scott (Christina) Hafeman.
his grandchildren: Riley and Reid DeLaurelle, CeCe, Charlie Jr., and Emalee Johnsen, and his youngest grandson, Maddox DeLaurelle.
Melvin is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a slew of assorted brothers and sisters-in-law.
Lastly he is survived by a wonderful wide range of friends!
In addition to his parents Melvin John Sr. and Rose DeLaurelle, Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved sister Sue DeLaurelle; and a brother David DeLaurelle, who died at birth.
A celebration of Melvin’s love of life, family, and friends will be held at a later date next summer at the camp.
