Betty Lanier Skinner, 77, of Orange Park, FL went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2020. She was born January 3, 1943 in Jesup, GA to the late Oren and Betty (Blount) Lanier. Betty grew up in Nahunta, Ga and graduated from Nahunta High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1960. After graduation, Betty moved to Jacksonville, FL where she attended Massey Business College. After receiving her certificate, she worked for judges and lawyers as a legal secretary. Betty was of the Baptist faith and became a member of Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church on March 14, 1993. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and for numerous nursing homes entertaining many audiences. Betty was known for her keen decorating eye and was known for being responsible for the beautiful church decorations. She enjoyed gardening and making things beautiful, cooking for her family and friends and had a passion and love for all animals. Betty will forever be remembered as a true southern lady who was sweet, caring and loving with a genuine and stunning personality. She had an infectious laugh and always wanted to make people happy. Waiting on her at Heaven’s Gate was her parents and husband of 52 years, Bill Skinner. Betty is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Laghezza and Kathy Baker (Lee); sister, Erma Davis; grandchildren, Ashley Binnion, Amanda Wendt (Josh), Jr. Baker, and Crystal Lee with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church 5005 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210 with Pastor David Adair officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time. Graveside services will be held following funeral services at 2:00pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Haven Hospice at www.beyourhaven.com or Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church in Betty’s memory.
