From the Clyde Times 12/24/1885
Marengo- Again we are called upon to chronicle the death of one of our old citizens. John Barclay, whom every one knows as a hard-working and strictly honest man, was taken suddenly ill while on his way to work Friday morning. He managed, however, to get to the house of Henry Reynolds, at which place his team was kept, and sent for medical aid. In the afternoon he was much better and a bed was arranged for him on a stone boat and conveyed home. That night and the next day was passed quite comfortably, but Saturday night the pain recurred with increased severity and he lingered until Sunday morning, when death relieved him from suffering. He was born in New Jersey in 1810, thus making him nearly 76 years of age, the last thirty years of which were passed in this place.
