TOWNSEND—Calvin Lewis Davis went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018 at the Cadia Broadmeadow Nursing & Rehabilitation in Middletown. While at the Broadmeadow facility, preparing for his return to home from therapy on Aug. 30, 2018, he passed on with the "folks" that had become his "fast second family"!!! We all had a good cry, while exchanging many hugs with expressions of admiration of his strength and determination to get stronger to go home!! We are so blessed as well and so thankful to have gotten to become an extension of Pops new family.

Born on Thursday, Jan. 22, 1925 near Golts, Md. to London Lewis Davis and Mary Catherine Reed Davis. Calvin attended Oakhill School as a child and spoke of many happy memories while there. Calvin lived with his son George and his wife Jenny on Oakhill School Rd. in Townsend. Calvin served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1943-1946. He married his sweetheart Clara Mildred Virginia Naylor on May 23, 1949.

In his early years, Calvin worked for the Borden Ice Cream Company making ice cream sandwiches, 3 flavored ice cream blocks and hand dipped chocolate popsicles. He also was a laborer, working multiple jobs, painting as well as other odd jobs to make ends meet. He worked at St. Andrews School in Middletown from 1952-1987 retiring with 35 years of dedicated service. He was given a special award for 32 years of dedicated service to St. Andrews Athletics in May 1984. He became good friends with his coworkers Paul Mannering, Ruth Heater, Tommy Bowers, and Abby and Billy Mannering. He loved and cherished everyone he met.

Calvin was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Clara Mildred Virginia Davis (Naylor) in 2003; and his mother. It was the same day on Aug. 29, 1973, 45 years ago that his mother went home to be with the Lord. He was also preceded by his step son, Gilbert Alford; and step grandson, Barry Dean Reece, Sr.

He is survived by his three sons, Calvin "Larry" Davis (Elizabeth) of Clayton, George J. Davis (Jenny) of Townsend, Edward L. Davis (Joan) of Clayton; and his daughter in law, Ruth Ann Alford of Townsend; seven grandchildren Edward Davis Jr., 18 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his dog "Louie".

A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, Sept. 4, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown…. Interment with military honors will follow in Townsend Cemetery.
