A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Zeb and Cora King. He served in the US Army in Korea and retired from G.E. after 34 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his wife, Ailene B. King; one daughter; five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his son, Chuck; daughter-in-law, Grace; three grandchildren, Jordan, Becca and Ethan and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 19 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Burial with military honors will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
