Evelyn E. Garrett, 93, died Friday, September 14, 2007 at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Unit in Jetmore, Kansas.


She was born November 14, 1914, at Great Bend, Kansas, to Clarence August and Elizabeth Bly (Yost) Bowe. Evelyn married James Arthur Rush on May 4, 1932, at Hoxie. He died January 8, 1988.


Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Post #190 Auxiliary, both of Dighton.


Evelyn's family moved to Lane County when she was a small child. She attended Lane County Schools. After her first marriage, Evelyn lived in Healy, but owned and operated the Tin Kitchen and Mom's Cafe in Dighton. In 1966 Evelyn left the area and lived in Nebraska, Colorado, Texas and California. She moved back to Dighton in 1977. Evelyn loved all sorts of crafts, such as tole painting, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader.


Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, 4 husbands, 3 sons--James Rush, J.D. Rush and Larry Rush, 2 brothers--Owen Rowe and St Clair Rowe, 2 sisters--Betty Anderson and Jean Hemel and 1 grandson--Jeff Rush.


Suvivors include 1 daughter--Bette Kirkhart, Walanee, HI; 1 grandson; 3 granddaughters; 4 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
