Alan W. Gregg, Sr., age 82, of Fairview, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge.

He was born in Erie on October 3, 1938 a son of the late James D. Gregg and Marion McLeod Gregg Altman.

He graduated from Lawrence Park High School and attended Buffalo University.

Alan worked many years as a Sales Manager and later a Vice President at Continental Rubber Works. He was a Sales Manager at Lord Corporation after returning to Erie and later worked for Barry Controls out of his home office until his retirement.

He was a member of The Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul in Erie and was on the Chapter for a time. He was on various boards at Brevillier Village for 25 years. Alan was the President of the Sales and Marketing Executives Association of Erie for 2 years. He was a member of the Elks Club, a lifetime member at the Maennechor Club and a past member of Lake Shore Country Club.

He enjoyed golfing, reading, exploring other countries through work and travelling around the country with his wife. He loved his Scottish heritage from the bagpipe music and Highland games to the dramatic Caleigh dinners complete with Haggis and Scottish music. He especially loved the annual vacations with his family and being on the water at Salt Fork State Park and the Outer Banks to name a few. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his crazy version of the Happy Birthday song which became a family tradition.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother’s second husband, and the man who raised him, Willis Altman, and a brother, Michael Altman.

Alan is survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy McCabe Gregg; his son Alan Gregg, Jr.; three daughters, Robin (Toby) Kinney, Holly (Joseph) Graham, and Marlo (Brian) Dougherty; and a brother James (Vicky) Altman. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Tory (Julia), Kyle and Rihana Kinney, Jarred and Caitlin Graham, Kaley Gregg and Liam Dougherty; and one great-grandson, Gabriel; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s for the wonderful, loving care they gave Alan during his stay.

Due to COVID-19, services were held at the convenience of the family with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St., Girard.
