SHIRLEY A. BIENVENU WALLIN, 75, native Memphian, daughter of the late Huntington and Elise Van Dresser, died at home after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Edwin J. Wallin; three children, Marvin A. Bienvenu Jr. of Cordova, and Robbie B. Mawyer of Billings, MT, and Eleanor "Nori" B. Sehar of Memphis; five grandchildren. and a sister, Betty Gallina of Cordova. Shirley recently had to resign from Crye-Leike Realty after more than 20 years as a successful realtor. Her life was one full of volunteerism and versatile roles. She was a "candy striper" in her early teens at the local V.A. Hospital during World War II serving critically wounded soldiers as well as one of the first volunteers at St. Jude's Children Research Hospital when it opened in 1962. She served as president of the Mother's Clubs at St. Louis Elementary and St. Agnes School Academy, instituting the annual traditional Father-Daughter Banquet. She served as head as St. Louis Alter Society under the notable Msgr. Clunan and much later as a V.A. Red Cross volunteer during the latter part of the Vietnam War. In the past several years, she was on the Board of Directors of Alpha Omega Veterans Services aiding homeless veterans. In her long career she was a fine horse woman, ballroom dancer, artist, concert pianist, religion teacher to teenage students and a clothes and swimsuit model on TV in her early 40's. She is a graduate of Hutchison School and attended Mt. Vernon College in Washington D.C. A wake will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 7 at Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Drive, Memphis, which will be presided by Deacon Dr. Bill Nourse and guest, Dr. Jerry Paul of Richland Baptist Church. Mass celebrant will be Father Albert Kirk. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery of Memphis. A reception will follow at the Gallinas Italian Restaurant on Club Center Drive and Germantown Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials can be sent to Alpha Omega Veterans Services, 1183 Madison Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104 or the West Clinic for Cancer.
