Alan Wayne Cady, DDS, 74, of McAlester, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at a later date due to COVID safety concerns. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.

Alan was born to Clifford R. and Beverly L. (Lowrey) Cady on September 2, 1946 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He moved around a lot in his youth including moves to California in 1952 and Wisconsin in 1958, but he always considered Iowa his home.

Alan served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. While enlisted, he met some wonderful lifelong friends. He completed his undergraduate studies at North Texas State University in Denton, and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa in 1977.

He married Sherry Schutt June 20, 1970 in Sioux Center, Iowa and they had a son, Jason, in 1971 and a daughter, Jennifer, in 1976.

Upon graduation from dental school, he moved the family to Oklahoma. Alan worked as a dentist for 35 years in Midwest City and Del City. He moved to McAlester in 2015 and worked for MyDentist before retiring due to health reasons. Dr. Cady loved music, and was known as the “Singing Dentist” because he loved to sing to his patients. He had a wealth of musical knowledge and loved music trivia.

Alan loved art and was a talented artist and painter. Alan was an automobile enthusiast and appreciated cars of all makes and models.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford and Beverly Cady, maternal grandparents: Russell and Ada Lowrey, and paternal grandparents: Loran and Rena Cady.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Sherry Cady of the home; daughter: Jennifer Felan of the home; son: Jason Cady and wife, Lacy Jo of Norman; grandson: Robert Alan Felan of the home; sister: Sheila Fandrey of Ohio; brothers: Steven Cady of Minnesota, David Cady and wife, Kathy of Iowa; sister: Jan Ferlin and husband, Phil of Tulsa; best friend of forty years: Billy Kalkbrenner and wife Diana of Chandler; special family members: Holly Forbes and her son, Trey of Oklahoma City, Jason Malin and his wife, Tomoko, and son, Kai of Midwest City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following charities: Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, The Firehouse Art Center Veterans program in Norman, or SAMHSA.
