GIRL BURNED WHEN GOWN CATCHES FIRE

Physicians at San Jacinto Memorial Hospital today are attemping to save the life of ten-year-old Juanita Wells, who was burned from her toes to her head when her nightgown caught fire early yesterday.

Her Stepmother, Mrs. Marvin H. Wells, is recovering from the burn she received on her hands and face when she tore off reminants of the little girl's burning gown and wrapped her in a blanket to take her to the hospital.

No one knows exactly how Juanita's gown caught fire, but is is believed that she either tried to light a heater in the bathroom or that she walked to near the burning heater.

Juanita has been given several blood transfusions and is under an oxygen tent. Members of the family said her condition is so critical that she cannot be treated properly of the burns for several hours.

The doctors now are just trying to save her life. "Treatment of burns can come later." they said.

Juanita's father was at work at Huber Carbon Black plant when the accident occured. Other members of the family were still in bed so no one saw the accident.
