Clinton MO - Herbert W. "Rick" Wysong, 64, of 806 East Franklin, died after a long illness about 6:15 am Mar. 1, at Clinton General Hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 24. Funeral services will be conducted Mar 4, at the Consalus Funeral Home.
Herbert W. Wysong, the second youngest of seven children of Lorenzo D. and Martha Burton Wysong, was born June 26, 1894, in Calhoun MO. His father died at Calhoun when he was a teenage boy, years ago. There he grew to manhood and left to serve in the armed services in World War I. Upon his return to civilian life his mother and family moved to Clinton which had since been his home. His mother died in December, thirty years ago. For many years "Rick", as he was popularly known, was employed with the city and at one time was Clinton's chief of police. He later became an employee in the power plant of Missouri Public Service. After 12 years there he was forced to retire, due to ill health. In November 1954 he suffered a stroke and at various times periodic recurrences. He was a member of the Calhoun Methodist Church and of the Clinton American Legion Post. He leaves three sisters, Miss Rose of the home, who devotedly cared for him in his long illness, Mrs. A. B. Langston of St. Paul MN and Mrs. A. P. Smith of San Diego CA.
