Herbert Randall Mahaffey, age 92, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.
Herb was born to Randall and Clara (Nolte) Mahaffey on December 8, 1928 in Shelby County, MO. He was the second born of 13 children. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Taylor. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2011.
He is survived by his children, Pat (Roger) Quincy of Mt. Sterling, IL, Cathy (Gary) Cawthon of Barry, IL, and Randy (Lisa) Mahaffey of Shelbyville, MO; three granddaughters, Kelli Quincy of Mt. Sterling, IL, Nichole Cawthon of Barry, IL, and Hunter Mahaffey of Columbia, MO; two great grandsons, Basil Quincy of Barry, IL, and Quin Saxer of Mt. Sterling, IL; brothers, Joe, Danny Kay, and Ted Mahaffey of Shelbyville, MO, and Jim Mahaffey of Conroe, TX; sisters, Evelyn Brown of Macon, MO, Francie Stewart of Olathe, KS, and Winnie Grable of Oscello, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Kenneth, Paul, and Harold Mahaffey; and one sister, Daisy Ballard.
Herb owned and operated Mahaffey DX, Mahaffey Trucking, and also farmed. He loved spending the winters in Texas with Dorothy, his cat- Pooper, playing pitch and poker, and attending the annual Mahaffey Reunion.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. A visitation will precede the service starting at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville, MO following the service. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Memorial Cemetery. Due to Covid-19, the family requests those attending to wear mask and social distance.
