Mary W. drew a Civil War pension as widow of Elisha B. Stricklin whom she said she married in 1904 (*) in Cullman County and she was his surviving spouse when he died in 1918. Records show she was previously married to Jess Alred in Cullman County 1891 (*). Her address on the CSA record was Cabot Avenue, Alabama City, Etowah Co., Alabama. The records indicates she was born in Cullman Co., AL and father was Willis J. Calvert. Civil War record shows Mrs. Stricklin died Feb. 28, 1964. Mary W.'s husband, Jesse Allred, and also her mother are buried in the same cemetery.

(*) Although she gave these statements of when she married for the military records, please see the Alabama marriages to J. Allred in 1904. The death date on Allred's handmade marker appears to be 1905, so it was a brief marriage. She married E.B. Stricklin in 1909 - after the death of his first wife in 1907. Mr. Stricklin was about 43 years older than Mary Winnie, but she had four children in her household. She was his surviving wife and she drew a war pension.

Additional notes: Records indicate her father was Willis John (called Bud) Calvert. The FAG memorial states another first name, but the tombstone is inscribed Bud Calvert 1851-1890.
