illiam Hugh Toohill, 50, of Granite City, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights, Mo.

He was born Feb. 14, 1957, in Bloomington. Mr. Toohill was a graduate of Wapella High School and of Illinois State University, where he received a bachelor of arts degree; was a farmer in DeWitt County; was a counselor at the Arch House in Granite City; enjoyed painting; and was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini basketball fan.

Survivors include his wife, Kathie Toohill; his mother, Helen A. (Rhodes) Toohill of Bloomington; three step-children, David (Debbie) Williams and Molly (Garrett) Mullen, both of Granite City, and John (Gay) Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six brothers, Daniel (Rose Ann) Toohill of Heyworth, Clement (Marge) Toohill of Davenport, Iowa, Edward (Kim) Toohill of Normal, Thomas Toohill of Mt. Pulaski, Matthew (Catherine) Toohill of Fairbury, and Dennis (Martha) Toohill of Bloomington; five sisters, Ann (Bob) Dixon of Plano, Texas, Jean Thorp of St. Charles, Mo., Teresa (Richard) Carroll and Kate (Tim) Watson, both of Bloomington, and Connie (Herb) Buttrick of Green Bay, Wisc.; brother-in-law, Rob Fanning of Wilmette; aunt, Mary Bennett of Greenville, Mo.; nephew, Carl Thorp of St. Charles, Mo.; godfather, Lawrence Toohill of Heyworth; 30 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and six step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clement M. Toohill; a sister, Mary Helen Fanning; an aunt, Teresa Toohill; and brother-in-law, Carl Dean Thorp.
