Margaret Been Hull passed away on December 14, 2020 in Greenville SC. She was born May 27, 1925 to Nellie Emily Daetwyler Been and Oath Washington Been in Pickens, West Virginia.

“I lived to teach. My family was my life.” Margaret gave a love that was selfless and valued her family above all else. She valued education, hard work, lifelong learning and left an imprint on family, friends and students. Margaret graduated from Pickens High School, received her B.S. degree in elementary education from West Virginia Wesleyan, and her Master of Science degree in early childhood education from the University of Delaware.

From the age of 6, Margaret knew she wanted to teach and was able to live out her dream. In 1944, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Silica, WV. In 1963, she moved her family to Delaware to teach first grade. For 8 years during her teaching career, she supervised student teachers for the University of Delaware. In 1999, she moved to Greenville, SC, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Margaret was initiated into Epsilon Chapter and Delta Kappa Gamma in 1971 and remained active in the teaching sorority at both the Chapter and State levels throughout her life. Margaret had a strong faith and was very active in her churches, New Castle Presbyterian, New Castle Delaware and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville SC where she served as Deacon and Elder; she was also very active in the Children’s Christian Education. On August 25, 1946 she married Robert Howard Hull, who died July 1, 1977.

She is survived by two children: Annette Hull of Greenville, SC; and Robert W. Hull (Mary Jo) of Morgantown, WV; 4 grandchildren: Kristin Hull of Richmond, Va; Robert A. Hull (Tandra) of San Antonio,TX; Jonathan Hull (Blair) of Taylors, SC; and Madalyn Hull of Charlotte, NC. Margaret had 3 great-grandchildren: Warren Hull, Emmalyn Hull, Adeline Hull and a fourth on the way. She is also survived by her sister Mary Najarian of Falmouth, Maine; two sisters-in-law Donnis Been of Alpharetta, Georgia and Eileen Been of Pickens, WV, and many loved nieces and nephews.

Margaret was predeceased by her brothers: George, Warren and Bert Been.

Margaret loved to travel and her grandchildren referred to her as Grandma San Diego. In addition, she loved dancing and spending time with her grandchildren; she loved and was proud of her flower garden. To maintain a sharp mind, she believed in eating blueberries and oatmeal and working crossword puzzles; she was living proof of its benefits. Margaret possessed insurmountable mental fortitude even in her final days; her mind was still sharper than most could hope for and her dry wit would always leave you with a smile! And when needed, Margaret provided a stern reminder to adhere reverently to the values she instilled in her family.

A private family service will be held at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, WV. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon.
