On November 22, 1956, John was united in marriage to Roene Jorgensen at Vermillion. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Southern California where John was a math professor at Pasadena City College. After his retirement, he and his wife spent their time in both South Pasadena, California and Chamberlain, South Dakota. He enjoyed gardening, reading and home improvement projects. He was a member of the Chamberlain Area Historical Preservation Association (CAHPA).
John is the father of four children; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SD. Military Graveside Rites were issued by American Legion Potter Post No. 3, VFW Post 6436, Chamberlain, SD.
