Obituary

Willie Ray Asher Barger, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus. She was born on July 16, 1935 in Yerkes, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Willie Asher and Shirley (Hamblin) Asher. Willie Ray was retired from Morgan Foods in Austin, Indiana and was a member of the Rural Street Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. She liked puzzle books, enjoyed reading and was an avid University of Kentucky fan. She loved traveling with her sisters to various churches and vacations. Her family wishes to acknowledge and give thanks to the staff of Hampton Oaks for their special care over the past 6 years. Willie Ray always had a smile and referred to her room at Hampton Oaks as her "precious room". In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Maude Asher, Emily Piercefield, Vicie Spicer, Betty Deaton, Joann Asher and Nan Williams and a niece, Meldia Schilawski. Survivors include two brothers, Nicky Asher and his wife Linda of Hamilton, Ohio and Phillip Asher and his wife Linda of New Albany, Indiana; a special nephew who was like a son to her, Ricky Spicer who cared for and had lived with her and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Nicky Spicer officiating.

Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed and will be limited to 25 people in the building. Please follow the CDC’s recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor's executive mandate.
