R. David Andrus, of Binghamton NY, passed away suddenly on December 28, 2020. He was born on September 28, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Eleanor and Ralph Andrus. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Carolyn and his infant grandson, Brian Andrus. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeannine, whom he married on August 6, 1960 in Elmira, NY. Also surviving are his daughter, Carol (Michael) Church and his son Steven (Mercedes) Andrus. He was blessed to have four grandchildren, Nicole (Matthew) Miller, Derek and Melissa Church, Kimberly Andrus, two step-grandchildren, Ashley and Nate Corey and one great granddaughter, Kendall Miller, all who will forever be twinkles in his eyes. He was the eldest of nine children, all of which were twins except for him. His sisters, Marilyn (Jim) Tobin, and Paula (Dick) Henry and brother, Paul (Diane) Andrus are surviving, the other four infants and Carolyn (Tom) Pakulski predeceased him. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Suzanne Bahr. He has many nieces, nephews and special friends (too many to mention) who he kept in contact with over the years. David accomplished many things over his long life, even overcoming a year-long stay in the Shriner’s hospital with childhood arthritis. He graduated from Harborcreek HS (1955), Edinboro University (1959) and Syracuse University with a Master’s in Teacher Education (1963). He started his career as a science teacher (Biology/Earth Science) with the Chenango Forks Central School district in 1959, where he met Jeannine. He held many positions in his life-long career there, HS Principal, basketball coach, Director of AV, Assistant Superintendent and finally, Superintendent of Schools, all of which he was extremely dedicated to. He was proud to say he helped to develop the NYS Science standards early in his career. He was a founding member of the Chenango Valley Lions Club and held every position at one time or another. Another of his loves was his music. He expressed that with his love of the church choir (since he was 7), his piano skills and even the clarinet, which he passed on to his daughter and grandchildren. He was very involved in the Kattelville Seniors Association up until his passing. He was an active member of the Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church, loved his newspaper puzzles, bus trips (saw 49 of the 50 states) and learning many things with his “Great Courses”. He will be missed greatly by those whose heart he touched with his gentle kindness. Forever in our hearts—we love you.
