Walter George Kidwell was the son of William Henry Kidwell and Margaret Elizabeth (Dosch) Kidwell. Walter married Mayme Elizabeth Jager on November 26, 1913 in St. Simon's Catholic Church in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana. Walter and Mayme had one daughter, Rosemary Afra Kidwell.

Walter may have been born in 1886. The 1900 census, WWI draft registration and his marriage record state he was born in 1886. The WWII draft registration, obituaries, death record and tombstone have 1887 as his date of birth.

Walter was the owner and proprietor of the Hyatt Hotel (later became Meredith House/Hotel) at 4th and Main in Washington, Indiana.
