William A. Macy, 69, of North Catherine St., died in a Wolf Pond fishing camp yesterday. Death occurred at the camp of Leon Romeo in a secluded section of the Town of Bellmont, Franklin Co., where Mr. Macy & Romeo vacationed for many years.
Mr. Macy had just finished breakfast, when he stepped to the water pump to get a drink of water and collapsed on the camp floor. Mr. Romeo summoned Franklin Co Coronor, Frank St. Mary from Malone, who in turn summoned Dr. Carl P. Sherwin. They made the 26-mile trip from Malone, seven miles along a little-used logging trail to reach the Romeo camp. He was pronounced dead of a thrombosis.
As a young man, he worked for the old Chateaugay Ore & Iron Co. It was there he learned the rudiments of steam engineering, a work that he followed for nearly 40 years.
Mr. Macy is survived by his widow, the former Eva Alexander of Lyon Mountain; one daughter, Mrs. Hilarion McClune of St. Louis; five sons, Otis of Lake Placid, Leonard of Malone, Kenneth of Plattsburgh, Gerald of Washington, DC and Vernon of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Adelard and Camille of Bangor; one sister, Margaret of Charlotte, NC.
