PORTSMOUTH - Mary Mildred (Capone) Carlton, 82, of 175 Woodlawn Circle, died March 6, 2005, at the Mark Wentworth Home after a 17-month happy and comfortable stay.
Born in Portsmouth on Aug. 14, 1922, she was the daughter of Archille F. and Caroline (Caruso) Capone. She was a graduate of St. Patrick School in Portsmouth. She worked for many years as a dietary aide at local nursing homes, including the Edgewood Centre, Clipper Home and the Mark Wentworth Home. She was a member of the Service Mothers Club in Portsmouth. Mary was a great cook and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for her family. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the many lives she touched.
Mary is survived by her husband, Carl Carlton of Portsmouth; five children, Stephen E. Carlton Sr. and his wife Pam of Hopkinsville, Ky., Paul W. Carlton and his wife Charlotte of Portsmouth, Carl A. Carlton of Portsmouth, Mary Jean Patterson and her husband Ken of South Berwick, Maine, and Geniece R. Abbott and her husband Bennie of Neoga, Ill.; one sister, Margaret Broadhead and her husband Robert of Greenland; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Paul Capone, William Capone and Edwin Capone; and five sisters, Josephine, Madeline, Rose, Lillian and Gloria.
