He was a Veteran of the US Navy, retiring after 32 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. On July 7, 1960 in Yokohama, Japan he married the late Mieko M. Manabe.
He is survived by one son Jim (Jackie) Mathis of California; two grandchildren Daniel Mathis of California and Emily Golding of Massachusetts; one brother Frank "Butch" (Barb) Abel of Hamlet; and several nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters Beverly Whaley and Carolyn Hickman.
Charles' wishes were to be cremated. A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date. The Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel is honored to be entrusted with Charles' care and arrangements.
