Mr. Johnny Eugene Churney, 79, of Elberton, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home. Mr. Churney was born in Anderson, South Carolina on January 8, 1941. He was the son of the late John Henry and Mary Nell Payne Churney. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Freddy Churney. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening and was a real craftsman. He had been the proprietor of the West End Package Store, as well as J & R Steakhouse and S & S Grill.

Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Patricia Wenona “Nona” Childs Churney; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Cindy Churney, Winder and Charles and Cindy Churney, Elberton; brother Billy Churney and his wife, Barbara, Elberton; sister, Shirley Rooks and her husband, Edgar, Augusta; grandchildren, John Thomas Churney, Jr., Los Angeles, California, Casey Churney and Callie Churney.

The family will have a private family Memorial Service in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. John Moore officiating.
