Brother of Clell Owings Died Friday Morning In Kirksville Hospital
Ernest E. Owings, 69 years old, of near Green Castle, a brother of Clell Owings of southeast Edina, died at 8:45 o'clock Friday morning, Sept. 20, 1963, at a hospital in Kirksville.
Funeral services were at the Glenn E. Kent & Son Funeral Chapel in Green City Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Morelock Cemetery.
Mr. Owings is survived also by his wife, a son, Marvin Owings, of Benton Harbor, Mich., four daughters, Reva, Mrs. James Smith, of Iowa City, Matella, Mrs. Earl Bland, of Benton, Harbor and Nadine, Mrs. Sam Bachman, and Waneva, Mrs. George Sizemore, of Green Castle.
Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three other brothers, Jesse Owings of Green Castle, Loren Owings of Kirksville and Verdie Owings, address unknown.
He was born June 16, 1894, in Sullivan County, a son of John and Henrietta Ivy Owings, and was married to Mae Conkin Feb. 6, 1916. They were the parents of six children, the five surviving and a son, who died in infancy. Mr. Owings had lived his entire life in the Green Castle community where he was engaged in farming and had also worked as a coal miner and a carpenter. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
His parents, a brother and three sisters also preceded him in death.
